when you consider buying yourself underwear from Costco. And those underwear are called Flexees.
Little O’s lunch on Saturday was a yogurt and half a banana. Have you ever had so much fun with yogurt and half a banana?
Just as everyone told her it would, the Parakeet feels like things with Little O are “going so fast”.
In an effort to keep some sort of record and savor the memories, she will be starting a “new this week” post on Mondays.
Over the past week, there have been a few new things for Little O:
-brushing his teeth. LOVES it. Has taken to reaching for the toothbrush whenever he is in the bathroom and chomping on it.
-a new tooth cut up top. This brings the total to Seven! holy moly, people – that is a mouthful.
-Mulch. Just when Little O got used to grass, the Parakeet took him to a playlot that was covered in mulch. He froze. This was new and different, he thought. He slowly got into a squat position and stayed that way for a while before picking up one piece of mulch ever so slowly, and..yep you guessed it putting it in his mouth. Hilarious. and disgusting. The Parakeet promptly said her favorite word lately, “yucky” and he took a few steps over to the slide.
-POOL! The Parakeet bought Little O a pool. He is being very cautious about this one. She tried to put him in Friday afternoon and he had a panic attack. Too Cold! Too Awful! Too Too Much Summer Fun! BUT Saturday afternoon, the babysitter was much more gentle and patient and apparently he had a lovely time. Hopefully mama will witness it soon.
-some new music. The Parakeet had grown a little weary of the 123s (as awesome as they are). Little O now has a CD of Ralph’s World (side note: the Parakeet did a reading of a show this guy wrote the music for a few years ago. No idea he was a children’s superstar), Justin Roberts, and Elizabeth Mitchell. They are all GREAT and are so good for mealtime and making sure the little guy doesn’t get mindless tv time.
-Zucchini. Of course – loves it. On Friday night, Little O ate half a zucchini, a bunch of spinach, and half a banana. Woah. Guess all this playing is making him hungry 🙂
Who knows what this week will bring?
The Huz’ first Father’s Day! Woot. Woot.
He started it the night before by drinking with the neighbors and playing video games until late into the night. He deserves it. He’s been working very hard.
So, the Parakeet got up when the O-ster squawked over the monitor. It had been warm the night before so they put him to bed in a t-shirt and diaper. OOPS. OOPS. Big Mistake.
Little O was standing up in the crib, smiling, and reaching one hand toward Mama. Oh, and also, he was naked from the waist down. Oh, and also his hand was covered in feces. His diaper was in the corner of the crib. Poo was streaking his sheets and was on both of his feet and parts of his legs. Mama made the executive decision that Father’s Day would start with a bath. For Realz.
The Huz slept through that poo-tastrophe. Fair enough.
When he came to, he decided he wanted lunch out – at an old standby “The Lincoln”. The Parakeet and the Huz used to go there a lot on the weekends. Before Baby. Really before they lived in this neighborhood, and more during the time when they would need their sorrows sopped up by biscuits and gravy.
The Huz got a nice big ol’ Coke and a country fried steak. O was totally pleasant and played in his highchair. They came home. Played more with the babe. Took a walk or two. Then, when the little one went down the Parakeet was so kind as to watch TWO movies with the Huz that were both of a masculine bent – Quantum of Solace and The Spirit. Can not remember the last double feature they’ve had. Seriously.
So it was a lazy Sunday free of plans – just like the Huz asked for. What a guy. What a Dad.
The week or so after the family got back from Texas, maybe a week into June, the Parakeet finally got around to tending her garden.
It was a new experiment last year and she was pleased to see that the Astilbes she had planted grew back.
The Hosta, however, has taken over! He has been nicknamed “the Hostile Hosta”. He’s the Grandpa of her little growing patch and he will probably be halved.
Little O and the Keet took a trip to Sears and Home Depot and loaded up the bright orange cart with marigolds, petunias, coleus and one indoor plant. She came home, put Little O down for a nap, and set outside with the baby monitor. Two garbage bags full of weeds and lots of potting soil later – she had planted what she bought.
Things are growing up nicely in their little backyard.
back from the store
lots o’ weeding
and we’ll see how they grow, and if someone *ahem* could mow that grass…
After this afternoon treat, the Parakeet read a sweet little blog about a Purple Garden – Ahhh, why didn’t she think of that? Next year…
On Saturday, the Parakeet and the Huz were both in really choice moods. That’s all on that subject.
They did agree on one thing, though: Little O needed a haircut. The Parakeet had loved how lately his hair was beginning to curl it was so long, but she did not love that he was sweaty all the time and having trouble seeing. She was alos getting a lot more “is your little one a boy or a girl?” and even more of the “she’s so big!”.
Well, Little O is not a she. He’s a he. The family walked about twenty-five mintues to the local Hair Cuttery. The Huz and Little O both got cuts. The Parakeet held O on her lap while he was snipped and scissored. He did pretty good for being just ten months old. Only a few times did she have to just hold his body in one direction. The stylist was great about “well, I’ll just cut this side now. That’s Ok -I’ll just cut the back now”.
She also gave the Parakeet a lock of Little O’s hair to keep and said she’d have a certificate for him the next time we came in.
and he’s ready to go…
